Signs you should refurbish your conservatory

In a time when most people are unable to leave their houses for extended periods of time, the importance of feeling content with our space has never been more apparent.

One of the most easily-customisable and often-overlooked spaces, however, is the humble conservatory. Whether it’s a chill-out space, a home office, or even an indoor garden, the conservatory is exceptionally versatile.

This is our guide to some of the telltale signs that it might be time to jazz up your home extension.

Hot and Cold…

Perhaps the most obvious reason that most conservatory-owners have for initiating a refurbishment is problematic climate-control.

Whether it is too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter, many conservatories suffer from this particular ailment. Luckily for you, we have a couple of easy fixes for your temperature-based troubles.

As with any building, the most immediately effective solution to climate-related issues is insulation.

Good-quality insulation can put a stop to your warmth-based woes, but how do you insulate a conservatory? Well, there are a few solutions.

Double-Glazing

Yes, this one may seem rather obvious, but one way of keeping a little warmer in a room that is essentially made of windows is to make sure the windows are double-glazed.

This is a key feature of most modern conservatories and is crucial to having a bit more control over the climate of your extension.

It also has a rather interesting history, one that we outlined in this post. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you could even go for triple glazing.

Blind Faith

If you’ve double-glazed yourself mad but still find things a little chilly, a good curtain or some quality blinds can work wonders.

Not only do they add some often-needed privacy to your conservatory, but they ass yet another layer of heat conservation.

A good, heavy draft-excluder by the door can also help to reduce the amount of warmth being lost, or cold coming in.

Looking Up

Finally, there is an increasingly popular solution when it comes to conservatory climate control: changing the roof. It stands to reason that an extension with a poorly-insulated roof will let rather a lot of heat out. There are several different solutions to this problem, so take a look to see if any suit your space.

What’s the Point?

Finally, an important question to ask yourself as a conservatory owner is: what is the point of your extension? If you notice that your conservatory is becoming woefully underused, perhaps it is time for a change of purpose? Too often, conservatories become glorified storage units.

Transform your space into a games room or a creative studio space, for example, and enjoy the energy of a brand new room. If you notice that your conservatory isn’t getting the attention it deserves, perhaps it is time for a refurbishment.
