How to boost your property’s curb appeal

Regardless of whether or not you’re thinking about selling your home in future, it’s worth remembering that your property’s value tends to increase the longer you live in it – regardless of what you do to it.

However, there are a number of easy ways you can boost your property’s curb appeal – or the first impression one gets of the exterior – and therefore its market value. While some are more expensive than others, there’s bound to be one solution suitable for your price range.

Add window boxes

Windows serve a pretty functional purpose – they keep the elements out and insulate the home. However, one way to improve the aesthetic appeal of your windows is to add window boxes to the exterior of your home. They’re not only attractive, but they also give you access to an additional garden space your home might lack. You can fill these with colorful flowers and other ornaments in order to make a fantastic first impression. This will also brighten up the view from inside the house.

Install window shutters

Exterior window shutters can make a world of difference to the way your windows are perceived, particularly if you have small windows. Shutters are inexpensive, and particularly for properties with a more traditional architectural style, they can add a real sense of rustic charm to the exterior of your property.

Upgrade your door

A decrepit front door does not make a good impression on guests (and potential buyers). While the functionality of the door plays a role in the property’s value, particularly its security attributes, the appearance is the first thing that people notice – so make sure the aesthetics are appealing. It’s recommended that you chose a style of door which matches the style of your home. At Unicorn Windows, we have a large selection of high quality doors, available in different styles and materials to fit your home perfectly. Additionally, you may wish to install a front door canopy in order to make the entrance of your home even more appealing.

Renovate your porch

The porch is the portal to the home, so ensuring your porch looks warm and welcoming is absolutely essential if you want to improve its value. One of the easiest ways to do this is to buy some potted plants. You can even hang the plants from your front door canopy for something extra special. Additionally, you may wish to install lights in the porch, particularly when it gets dark early during the winter. This way the porch acts as a beacon for the home, enabling people to find their way to the door safely and soundly. Install a conservatory

While it’s certainly not the cheapest way to improve the aesthetic appeal of your home, installing a conservatory is one of the best investments if you want a large, long-term return on the value of your property. So long as your conservatory is a good stylistic match for the property, and it’s build out of high grade materials, building a conservatory is about the most effective way of improving the curb appeal of your property as is possible. However, be aware that the positioning of the conservatory will affect how warm it gets throughout the year – for more information please see our previous article.

Spruce up the landscape

Unlike the previous tips – this one doesn’t cost a penny! Prune the bushes, remove weeds from the plant beds, mow the lawn and trim any unsightly overhanging branches. A few hours of work on the landscape can make a haggered property immediately look more bright and appealing.
